Born to a working class family in Bristol, Pennsylvania, John Cordisco has devoted his life to public service. John was the first member of his family to go to college, a feat he accomplished while working as a dues paying union member for the Steelworkers and Electrical Workers unions. Having stood in unemployment lines, John entered public life to minimize the economic impacts on Pennsylvania families. First elected to the Bristol Borough School Board at 22, John was subsequently elected to the Pennsylvania Legislature in 1981, at the age of 25. During his six years representing the 140th legislative district, John chaired the House Committee on Veterans Health Care, and served as a member of the Judiciary and Labor Relations Committee, where he compiled a 100% voting record on labor issues. Through his leadership in the House, John has been recognized for his accomplishments by the United Vietnam Veterans Organization, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign War and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.
After leaving the state legislature, John continued fighting for working families by establishing a law firm dedicated to protecting families and children. John’s success in representing children and families has garnered him praise from clients, judges and periodicals from across Pennsylvania. John’s skill in advocacy for his clients has earned him a Trial Advocacy Diploma from the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
John’s dedication to children has been most exemplified by the establishment of the Have-A-Heart Foundation. As the grandfather of a special needs child, John established the Have-A-Heart Foundation to enrich the lives and families affected by physical or mental disabilities. Through John’s efforts, the Something Special Day Camp was created for children with disabilities.
In 2002, John was elected as Chairman of the Bucks County Democratic Committee. As Chairman, John has registered more voters than Republicans for 5 consecutive years. Under John’s leadership, Bucks County has elected a record number of Democratic officeholders at all levels of government. In 2005 alone, Bucks County won 119 out of the 174 locally contested races, and in 2006, Bucks County elected their first Democratic congressman in almost 15 years with the election of Congressman Patrick Murphy. John’s tenure has been praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Democratic National Committee and most importantly by the members of the Bucks County Democratic Committee, who, in 2006, unanimously voted for him to a second term as Chair.
In 2005, John, along with other prominent business people, established Team Capital Bank. This new banking institution provides a comprehensive set of financial services, including traditional retail and commercial banking products. As a member of Team Capital’s Board of Directors, John promotes economic growth, job creation and critical banking services to the Greater Philadelphia Region.
John is the proud father of three children and has four grandchildren. John received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Rider College and a Juris Doctor Degree from Temple University School of Law.
